I am thinking about getting an analog delay for short delay/slapback type stuff - I already have a Yamaha UD for complicated delays. The kind of delay I'm interested in is the really short delay you can hear on Keef Richards guitar on Brown Sugar (which I imagine was added at mastering) and the natural echo on Pete Townshend's guitar on Live at Leeds. I want to spend as little money as possible so the Echoczar and Diamond Memory Lane are out of the picture. It seems to me that my options are the EHX Deluxe Memory Man and the Jacques Prisoner. Would anybody care to tell me the pros and cons of these (or any other recommendations)? Thanks in advance.

Try and grab a Boss DM-2 or DM-3 off ebay. These'll do what you want excellently, and can be had for a reasonable price (~150, sometimes less)

I really like the DMM, you might want to pick one up, as I think I read that the production of the (Panasonic?) chip for the delay stopped a while ago and they will only get more expensive as they recently did and eventually be no more...

Only heard good things about the Jacques except that it has shorter delay time, and I'm not sure if it has wet/dry outputs...

Could one of the moderators please turn down the Repeat knob?

No telling what might happen if we go into oscillation! :worried

    Ibanez AD-99 for $100!

Too bad it's in the big-a$$ box with the backwards input & output jacks...

    Sounds GREAT though!

I have the Prisoner and a '90s MIJ Arion SAD-1, both are killer for slapback echoes. I like the modulation and clarity of the Prisoner over the SAD-1, but would be completely content with either.

The early-mid '80s black MXR Time Delays, either the plastic Commande, 2 knob version (quite good, but not well shielded) or the 3 knob, die cast 2000 series (DM-3 territory) can be had for minimal scratch when they turn up...

    BTW,

The AD-900 rulz! Well, that said... I think that analog delay's are very limited. My doesn't get much live use at all, IMO it's TOO dark.

But it is a nice "luxury".
