I've been on a bit of an AC/DC kick lately. The last day or so, I have been working on "Have a Drink on Me." There is a lifetime of great, greasy blues licks all through Angus' stuff that I never appreciated until I started breaking his solos down. This is a lesson I never expected but greatly appreciate!

Oh yeah, I just saw them this summer and it was killer. I love Malcolm and Angus equally for different reason. My fav solo is 'Rock N' Roll ain't Noise Pollution'. Man, he is so far behind the beat (in a great way) on that one!!

I had a very similar experience lately when my band decided to play Highway to Hell. WAY more groove to that solo than meets the eye! Angus is a monster but VERY easily taken for granted since his solos are so familiar to our ears.

I have listened to Back in Black probably a thousand times. What still gets me is how strong that album is even if you were to leave off these two mega-hits.

Trying playing those solos while thrashing around like he does, it gets all the more impressive!

Great feel, great tone! No, he's not re-inventing the wheel, but who cares with phrasing like that.

Back in Black is a masterpiece...Mal and Angus have tried to capture that lightening in a bottle and have always come up short...some good tries but that album was pure magic and will always be their highwater mark.

Malcolm and Angus are the epitome of rock'n'roll. Simply the best.

The Brothers are one of the main reasons I picked up a guitar in the first place. Rock & Roll, pure & simple.

They should be in Websters dictionary under Rock n Roll. End of story.

If it wasn't for them two cats I'd never picked up a guitar in the first place.

Angus is the reason I play guitar.
I just spent the morning watching AC/DC YouTube videos.

I completely agree that Mal is the most underrated player going. My original post was about what great, greasy licks Angus plays, and that I never really appreciated how cool and thoughtful and playful those licks were until recently - when I started breaking down a few of his solos. I am working on "Have a Drink on Me" right now.

I should have probably said that learning to play an AC/DC song through - both rhythm and lead parts - is a really great overall lesson. Those songs sound so simple, but when you really try to re-create that sound and precision across all of the parts, good luck to you. These guys are just great players, and I am learning loads of stuff by breaking down their songs. As I said before, it is a welcome lesson that I did not really expect.
