Any experience with the new Celestion 10" Greenback?

I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on the 10" Greenback especially if you're using them in Fender/Fender type amps. Any opinions would be welcome, Thanks.

Great speaker, I can't think of a better current production 10".


For a Fender I'd look at what Weber has to offer as well.

Just popped one in my Class 5 and loving it although its less efficient.

Tonally its all greenback and gets the class 5 into breakup sooner and brings it closer the that plexi vibe where the stock speaker was more efficient with later breakup and slightly scooped, less bright overall, more bluesbreaker tone.

Both tones are great from this amp but the 10" Green is something special

You read my mind, will probably score another class 5 and do exactly the same thing! Also gassing for the AC4, this low watt craze is a good thing.

The one with the 10" GB will be quite a bit quieter.

I had these speakers in a Marshall 4x10 when they first came out. I should have never sold it. Sounded AMAZING with a Dr. Z. Carmen Ghia. Not sure on a Fender amp.

Agreed. They sound much like 12" greenbacks to me.. Perfect with my JTM45 (which is basically a tweed bassman circuit).. but they don't work so well with my blackface head.. They lack the clarity/chime needed to give that blackface tone.

I love mine in a Marshall. It’s the closest thing you can get to real greenback tone in a smaller package. An unbelievable low end for a 10” speaker. It doesn’t have the spread and sound distribution that a 12” does, but tone wise it really does sound freakishly like a 12”.

I think there would have been a LOT fewer complaints about the studio vintage combo if Marshall had made this the stock speaker for that combo instead of the V Type.

In a fender... it depends if you want a classic fender tone or a kind of hybrid Marshall/fender tone.

With a Vox it depends on what you do with your Vox. If you want the jangly clean Vox sound, probably not, I’d go with an alnico. If you want dirty crunchy Vox sound it’s fantastic.

I know Jim Campilongo uses the 10" Greenback in his Blackface Princeton Reverb.

That's an old post and quite frankly I was DEAD WRONG. Greenbacks sound great with princeton reverbs and deluxe reverbs IMO.
