Other than Barden and Lace sensors, Are there any HB'ers split well, what would be awesome if lace sensor offered Nickel covered Humbuckers .
Just got a USA 60th ann. Tele HH, sweeeet but the split sounds like its in a tunnel

I have split humbuckers in a bunch of guitars. They all sound great, IMO. None sounds like a strat or tele pup, but then that's not what I expect from them.

I had never liked a split humbucker until Fralin. I'm actually a big fan of his split humbucker sounds.

Jazz/JB's sound pretty good in my guitars when split. Not quite perfect single coil sound, but definately close enough for occasional stage use.

I have a PRS Korina Mira with the stock Mira humbuckers and I really like the sound when split. Very useful single coil tones for me. Can cop a good Hendrixy Strat tone. Nice and gritty and takes OD pedals well.

I use the Lollar imperials and split them all the time. They sound very nice split. Just shipped out a SSH S-style and the pos 2 was very quacky! They have my vote.

Fralin Unbuckers? I'm curious myself as I'd like to sell a guitar and make one of my Super Strats at least passable with it's bridge pickup sounding like a Strat single (or thereabouts!).

I have a Lollar Imperial in my kit but it's a 2 conductor, arrghh...

And BluesKing, Lindy is right in Richmond so you could swing on over and work with them directly to get what you want as well; great folks!

Happy Playing!

I have yet to hear a bucker I thought sounded like a single when split. But I guess they can still sound good though.

If you go in expecting a LP to sound like a Strat or Tele when split, you'll be disappointed. If you want a thinner, brighter, lower output version of what you already have, you'll be fine.

Fralin Unbuckers are great. The secret sauce is that Lindy winds one coil(the active when tapped one) slightly stronger than the other so that you don't experience the slight volume drop associated with a split humbucker. Great pickups if you usually play clean, but if you play with distortion might not be the pickup for you. His regular humbuckers are top notch pickups too and they sound great when tapped.

Never heard one I liked, but then I haven't heard a bunch of the pups mentioned in this thread!

+1 on the Tom Anderson or Schecter SuperRock(same design as TA). The SuperRock set I have splits to Strat specs(4.3k and 5k).
They actually have fat poles that are slug/mag rod/slug, no bar mag. Mags in the coil is the only way to get it done. The string pull is very light and there's enough metal to attenuate the highs a bit.
The HB tone is unique, note separation is superior, fat wounds and they have an open tone maybe hi-fi. Git vol roll-off gives sparkle. They're kind of a mini-bucker on roids.

Ideal for a SuperStrat. Use the HB mode for solos and heavier songs.

I'll be de-winding the non-split coils 1 to 1.5k. Too strong in HB mode, I'd like them closer to vintage output. The unbalanced coils will possibly get them a bit P90-ish.

I play distorted and on the edge of distortion the majority of the time; humm, any other suggestions then? The Tom Andersons sound interesting, what about those for distorted play?
