After years of playing Strats because of the sweet sound and comfort, I finally gave into double cut lps a while back. Whether they're loaded with p-90s, humbuckers, or traditional single coils with mounting rings, double cuts are all I play any more. Does anybody else love these things like I do? I don't know why it took me so long to pick them up, but I feel more creative than ever and I play for hours until my girlfriend shuts off my amp and reminds me that she exists, along with other obligations.

If I ever get another LP it will be a doublecut. I've come to really like the looks of the body's lines in a way that I just didn't appreciate when I was younger. The SG kinda converted me to doublecut Gibsons and the magic of upper fret access :)

I don't own any, but I think the double cut LP is by far the nicest looking of all the Gibson electrics.

It's the shorter scale, fret access, and symmetry for me. :aok After my first faded double cut with p-90s I was sold. It's the only guitar I refuse to sell, and it's easily the cheapest and most plain guitar I've had since that very first epiphone junior so many years ago.

She only does it when it's past midnight, when I should be prepping for work, or when I've got coursework to take care of. Otherwise, it'd be an infinite cycle of, "yes dear, five more minutes." :p

Doublecut LP's? Hell no! Hamer Studio Customs? Hell YES!

Yeah, the doublecut Hamers are kinda what got me back to looking at doublecut LPs. Those Hamers are awesome guitars and an absolute steal on the used market.

My fave guitar shape. I have a Gibson Les Paul TV Special, a cherry red Jr. and a Hamer Special w/Duncans.

They are just so much fun for rhythm stuff. I love playing them when I sing or do backup vocals. I still prefer a normal LP for just lead guitar stuff, but when I sing, double cut all the way!!! I love the exotic colors too!!

I'm starting to dig the double cut LP jrs but the carved top Standard LPs in a DC format do not appeal to me

Beat me to it. I've got a pair of 'em that are just about impossible to beat.

Thanks for the GAS guys. Now I think I NEED a couple of those Hamers.

With the double cut LPs it's just that unexplainable "I refuse to play anything else" feeling that some guys have about certain guitars. I'm just a sucker for symmetry, binding, trapezoid inlays, and the Gibson headstock. Maybe I'm just shallow..... :p

I love my 1960 LP JR. One of the best sounding-playing guitars in the world, IMHO.
I've had this one for about 4 years now and is my go to guitar for jams and gigs.
I bought when the prices were somewhat high still ($6000) but no regrets.

Funny thing is my first double cut was a 59 that i bought off of Dave's Guitar Shop about 12 years ago, it was perfect refin that cost me $550. I thought i was doing so well when i sold it for $1200 3 years later. Boy did i miss that guitar after. That tone you only get from the double cuts. So i bit the bullet and paid the big bucks.

I've got an all-original vintage 1958 here...great guitar for sure. I recommend 'em.

:bow I envy you gentlemen. If I had the cash I'd spring for one of those in a heartbeat. For now I've got a DC Standard with only a bound neck/Seth Lovers, a newer Goldtop DC with P-90s, and a Faded DC with P-90s. Logically, I play the cheaper faded more than anything else. :bonk

Hell, I didn't even post the pics before. :p

Here's the '96

And the '05

And they play/sound better than they look...

I like those Gibson DCs too, though.
