I have to say that as far as the Scorpions moving into the 80's and 90's?... (shred era?!)
Matthias pretty much laid down rhythm's and solos that sent me back to the woodshed but yet were able to achieve after some quality practice time...

    Great player. Any fans?
Give him some props 80's shredders....

(riding off the Scorps thread earlier... sorry!)

Blackout is one of my all time favorites and Jabs just kills.
Actually don't consider him a shredder in the Satch, Vai, Malmsteen vien. To me he's a rock guitarist with a great sense of melody.

one of my first guitar heroes. his fills and solos were smooth and effortless. his pinch harmonics were always perfectly placed. don't know if I've ever seen a guy look happier on stage. never stops smiling and enjoying the moment.
saw them on van halen's monsters of rock. jabs and lynch put on the best guitar performance of the day.

One of my top 5 in the 80's. -Haven't kept up with him much since.

Yeah, Mathias he had some HUGE shoes to fill.
He's definitely no Uli but his style fit perfectly with the songs and was just what the Scorpions needed to help make them the megastars they became.

I would agree with the above post. Obviously, a much different player, as was the Scorps a different band with him in the lead chair. He fits them well.

Another Jabs fan here, love me some Scorps! Lovedrive is very raw sounding, which I dig, and for me, the best Jabs era Scorpions release, along with Animal Magnetism, Blackout & Love @ 1st Sting (in no particular order). He is a very underrated player with a great sense of melody.

I'm fan of Mathias. Rock You Like a Hurricane is in my top 5 all time favorite solos. He's all over the fretboard on that one. It's both high energy pyrotechnics and melodic and perfectly matches the song. He has really unique phrasing that's loose and free.

Great player. Plus I always dug that white Explorer.

Lovedrive has Michael Schenker playing lead on 3 or 4 tunes.

    Love me some Jabs.
a neighbor gave me the World Wide Live cassette when I was in 6th grade and I played the crap out of it. I sort of forgot about it until a couple years ago when I gave it another listen and it was incredible how much his playing had influenced my own during those formative years.
    Very cool guitarist.

This is how i always felt about him.
I really enjoy his playing, and i agree that he always looks like he's the happiest guy on the planet when he's on stage.

Matthias Jabs rocks! Blackout was released a few months after I started playing. When I heard the lead in No One Like You for the first time, I was hooked. I loved his note selection and how you could sing along with it. When Love at First Sting was released, I was blown away. Great riffs, solos, tones and songwriting. He was the first player to make me really crave an Explorer.

Was never into the Scorpions until Love at First Sting and that opening riff to Bad Boys Running Wild still blows my mind.
Much respect for this great player.

Love Matthias playing , the guy played for the song but also threw a good amount of flash in there for good measure. The solos in No One Like You and are obvious classics . Here`s a few that fly under the radar
