I have listened to these guys here and there and finally saw these guys last night locally, small venue. Absolutely incredible guitar playing, washboard playing, cigar box playing!! I really enjoyed the show. All three of them just trading instruments the the whole night. The sound of Luther Dickinson is just incredible. Surprised a few of those guitars are Hofner semi-hollows although the 335 w/ lollars through that fuchs combo was really the most incredible sound of the night. I just really enjoyed the whole show.

Anyone else check these guys out? if not, I HIGHLY recommend it.

I've seen them a few times and it is always a great show. Love the allstars. Their latest live release 11.11.11 is great.

Been a fan since I first heard "Shake Hands With Shorty"

Luther's a BEAST!!!

I know I'm in the minority, but I think he's the best fit for The Black Crowes also......I love the Marc Ford stuff too, but Luther just adds so much more to that band.

I just know I was standing there all night going "This is what guitar is supposed to sound like!" Luther's tone through that Fuchs is just outstanding. Of course, they also had about 9 different amp heads up there. 2 or 3 of them Marshall heads. One Fuchs head, one combo. A couple of SF Fenders and one BF fender also. I looked up some stuff on his rig and found a video of him going through it. He mostly plays the Fuchs in stereo with a delay on one of them. Not a lot of pedals although he does have a KOT on the board. I am guessing some of the other amps are for the cigar box guitar and the can guitar. Plus since they were switching instruments all night I think the Marshall's were his brothers. Seems like a ton of gear to haul around and setup but damn it sounded good!

BLASPHEMY! ;)

Saw them open up for the Crowes (both during the Hammerstein run and New Years at MSG) and became a big fan.

Luther is a beast.

Though if I hear Po Black Maddie one more time I think I'll scream.

Enjoyed them live at SXSW a couple of years ago, but bought a studio album at the show and it didn't translate to what I heard live. I rarely listen to the cd.

I feel that way a little also. Hearing them play live is way better but then again I gravitate towards bands that excel live and could care less about albums.

Good band.

My favorite work of theirs is where they team up with Robert Randolph and John Medeski to make "The Word"

Funny you mention Robert Randolph. I saw him several months ago at this same small venue. It was a packed house. Also one of the best shows I have seen in the last couple years. Dude jams!

Fortunate to have attended Ole Miss in Oxford when they were young. I miss those days. Great, great music town.

NMAS rule the gig. Luther goes for it every night. Love that about his style.

I love the Mississippi Allstars. I liked them even better when they were playing around Memphis as DDT with Shawn Lane.

I was extremely upset that I had not thought of doing an electric washboard solo before I saw them do it.

Holy crap. I know Shawn Lane is respected around here, but what musical masturbation! I mean, I like chops and some shred too, but at some point it's purely self indulgent and if I'm bored as a guitarist listening to a nonstop flurry of notes for way too long, I can about imagine how the average audience member feels.

That said, I love North Mississippi Allstars. Luther is a killer guitarist with chops and style.

I saw Seasick Steve last week and Luther was there. Steve asked Luther to sit in with him on a song, one song turned into two. A few songs later Steve asked him to come back out and he did two more songs. Then a few songs later he had him come back out for 2 more. Luther was loving it, the whole show was great. It was the first time they had ever played together from what Steve said and it totally worked, Luther is pretty awesome. I enjoyed the songs Luther sat in on more than the songs without, it was just a super fun show.

Is Audley Freed still in the Black Crowes? I remember when Cry of Love's album "Brother" came out. My roommate and I wore that CD out. Just blown away by his style, chops and raw Marshall tone. I seemed to think they were a bit derivative of the Black Crowes, which seems silly, since the Crowes sounded so much like the Faces, Stones, Humble Pie, etc...
