All their other pedals get rave reviews. Is their 808 clone any good?
I got to try it at NAMM. It's good, but I like Retro-Sonic's Distortion better. I like the high gain with smoothness that the Distortion delivers.
Wow! a cool distortion from them would be great!
Is it like a "rat" in your opinion?
The builder described it as very Rat-like, but I think it sounds better than any Rat I've ever heard.
I guess I should have been more specific. There are so many 808 clones on the market--enough to make my head spin. Mods, variations, reissues, adaptations, chip-swaps, and on and on. From the reviews, it seems as though they got the script Phase 90 right, so I was wondering how their 808 stacked up against the real thing.
c'mon, somebody's gotta have an opinion on the Retro 808...
I had one for a while. It was a real nice 808-style pedal. I haven't owned a lot of them (I've mostly owned TS-9s) but it was right up there.
Here's a clip I recorded with the Retrosonic...
The first half is a Les Paul, the second half is a Strat. In both cases I play a bit before I turn the pedal on so you can hear how I had the amp set.
