has extremely short power tube life?
i've had mine for 2 years with no problems... (knocks on wood)
Haven't heard that, but I've only had mine a few months. Luckily, if it's true, EL-84's are about the cheapest tubes out there. And, it's cathode biased, so no need to bias when putting in new tubes.
I haven't heard that. Cathode bias will obviously go through tubes quicker than normal(AB style amp). I used to go on the Orange forum quite a bit and never heard anything like that. Those guys are pretty open about issues they have with their Oranges.
2 years without changing anything you mean?
haven't changed the tubes at all. that being said, i have several amps that i play more than the orange so it isn't like i'm cranking it up every night. i did use it in the studio with great results. it is a truly fantastic little amp - great cleans and raging distortion are possible. and it's CHEAP. highly recommended...
Had mine for over a year with no tube swaps needed. I didn't play it everyday though.
I didn't notice that with my TT. And that's playing it frequently at nearly full volume.
Now I did swap the no name stock tubes to EI el84, so perhaps they're just more durable?
