Does anybody have one of these?? Is this a multi-track recorder or a unit to use between the recorder and computer. Not really sure what this unit is all about.I thought you could record and overdub with it.

It's a USB audio interface that is meant to be used with a computer.

UX1 has standard instrument input and UX2 adds Phantom power for condensor mics.

Right, the toineport is the audio interface, and also includes Gearbox, which handles all your amp/effect modeling needs. You still need multitrack recording software, although Line6 includes Ableton Live Lite with the toneport, to "get you started". By the way, the UX1 has independent guitar (1/4") and XLR inputs but no phantom power), as well as stereo line in.

There are also free and cheap alternatives to record, such as Reaper, Guitar Tracks Pro... On the Mac, I'm a big Logic Express fan.

Oh, and I should have added... I use a UX1, and I love it. Check out my tunes on myspace - everything is recorded through it and Gearbox.

I use the UX2. It's an interface to the Computer with lot's of connectivity. Plus you can get amp models, mic models all sort of EFX (via Gearbox). I think these are great deals.
I use it at home with Garageband - a great sketchbook for ideas that is surprisingly good, in fact I'm doing a movie soundtrack with this combo on my Mac as a test.

    Best, Pete.

Gearbox is good. But Toneports have issues. Even more so if you are using a laptop.

Issues? I've had zero on a PC, WinXP laptop and iMac. Solid as a rock.
What issues are you referring to?
