I'm using the newest version of iMovie (10.0.6). I've got some home movie footage shot in HD and it was no problem to get the footage transferred from the SD card, edited, etc.

Now, I'm simply trying to save the movie (about 25 mins. in length, and I chose a fairly low-res option) and the program is telling me it's about 3 hours to convert it into a Quicktime mp4 file.

Not being a computer expert, I wanted to ask is this really normal? People take 25 mins. home movie footage and it takes 3 hours to make it into a medium-resolution file to upload to youtube?

Any tips on how to do this a more expeditious way?

try not changing the resolution and see if that goes any faster. Yes it often takes some time to transcode mp4 files...

Three hours sounds about right, yes.
