I've been jonesing for a paisley guitar ever since I saw Brad Paisley's custom EBMM axis/tele on the ACM's last year. I'm looking into making my own, right down to a similar finish - black/silver paisley.

I have no idea how a paisley finish is done, other than wallpaper being involved. I'm looking for one of two things - either info on how to do a paisley finish or info on someone who can paint a paisley guitar finish.

    Cloth, not wallpaper.

Rob Oliveira of Rhomco Guitars near Ft Worth does them.

I seem to remember that you must use polyurethane; can't use nitro. Folks?

There are several excellent "how to" threads on TDPRI on this very subject. The results are pretty impressive.

Fabric and gift wrap has a lot of patterns available and may be easier to get than wall paper. I think project guitar website has some tutorials on doing paisley with fabric and just the other day I saw some paisley bodies but I can't remember where - maybe allparts or USCG? It may be quite difficult tracking down the original fender paisley pattern but some guys on the TDPRI have scanned it!

The original Fender paisleys were said to have been wallpaper but they have a metallic surface under the printing. The wallpaper on the re-issue Fenders have a background that is a bit different from the original run.

Thanks for the info. Bumping this to see if the "dayshift" TGP folks have any input as well.

I found a company near Nashville that might be able to do it. Waiting to hear back from them to see if they can do it.

I just heard back from the local company - about $600-750 for a paisley finish.

The metallic background on these is a bit different from the vintage ones.
