There are a few sellers on eBay who specialize in various Japanese imports - I picked up an Ibanez J Custom from one importer a while back. Looks like there's a listing up right now for a TL69-SPL like you're showing for $1099.

Just contact Ishibashi and tell them what you want.

I always thought that Ishibashi could not export new Fender Japan guitars due to manufacturer restrictions.

I've bought from Ishibashi and Rakuten. Both great vendors. Just email and tell them what you want.

That was true for a very short period of time. It looks like the price of new CIJ Fenders has gone way up since when I bought one. Not as good a deal as they used to be.

I've just looked at the price of one of those black kimono fabric Teles. It's around $1300 once I've factored in shipping and import duty to Thailand. Not sure what to do. The price seems a bit steep, but it is a really nice looking guitar and (pots and switches aside) I've never had a bad Japanese Fender.

The dollar/yen exchange rate is really bad right now for US buyers. The price of any guitar from Japan is way up due to that alone.

    Hey Folks,

I've got a trip to Japan planned for the future. Is it any easier or cheaper to pick up a guitar while there, rather than mail ordering one?

If you were going to Japan, what special guitar gear would you want to get? Maybe something that you cannot get from the US?

That black floral Tele is beautiful.

Wow, prices seem to be way up from last time i looked, and a lot of bodies are still basswood. I'd definitely stick with buying USA stock no matter what the origin of manufacture. Besides, i'm a bit gun shy after ordering a strat 7-8 years ago from them and receiving a tonally horrible example that i sold immediately for a big loss. Worse sounding fender I ever owned.

The best part is that they have the oval type grip shape!

They sure are pretty. I'd like to see them in person. I can't say I'd want to own one because I'm already over Telecastered, but I like nice art and am just glad to see they exist.

That old blue floral design that came out when the pink paisley did was pretty bad IMO. These put that to shame.

Didn't know the prices would be that steep....I guess I'll just fix up my old Japanese Paisley Strat from 1989.

I'd love to get a Japanese Fender Custom Shop at some point.

At 75 yen I doubt you will be buying anything. Plus you have to drag it on the hour plus train ride from Tokyo to Narita. But it's a very fun trip and you should go all the same. Ocanomizu and Shibuya are great.

They called it "Custom Edition". The quality is on par (some say better) than Fender Custom Shop. And the guitars they offered are way cooler.
