I had an old Guitar Player Buyers Guide that featured a guitar called the Yuri Angel. That guitar blew my mind, but as a young 20-something kid, I had no way to afford such an animal. I'm still hunting for the buyer's guide here so I can snap a pic and post it, but thought that I would ask around anyhow.

If any of you have the guides, it had an orange border and a PRS on the cover :D

I'd love to find that builder...and that guitar!

It's spelled Yuriy and if you google "yuriy shishkov" some stuff comes up that indicate he is or was with the Fender Custom Shop. George Gruhn is sellin a Yuriy archtop listed as new, however, so maybe he's still building under his own name.

    Thank you so much!

Do you recall the Angel? It was a very interesting looking instrument....just gorgeous :). I wonder if he still has any of the old stock? Hmmmm.

I owned the Angel guitar for a bit. Nice guitar but I never quite bonded with it. It was a bit thin sounding and I just couldn't get used to the 24 frets. The neck was a bit on the smallish side for my preference as well. The pearl work was amazing but there was some finish bleed onto the binding. When I owned it there were no websites for info regarding it or Yuriy Shishkov. I sold it on ebay. Nice guitar but I don't really miss it. If the current owner is reading this, in the control cavity there is tin foil shielding. If you carefully pull back the shielding there's a handwritten dedication in russian written by Yuriy.

Yes...that's the one. Looks a bit more squat in the body than I recall, but yeah...wow! What a beautiful instrument :)

He's certainly one of the all-time best who ever worked at the Fender Custom Shop, imho, right on up there with John English, John Suhr, Fred Stuart and Alan Hamel...

    Didn't
Alvarez offer a Yuriy named acoustic model in the early nineties? i think Guyitar player gave it a really great rating in an acoustic shootout.

It is called a Custom Shop Masterbuilt Stratocater Thinline. It's a strat body with a tele neck and a hum bridge pu and a tele neck pu and a whammy. Definitely different.

I've always been attracted to that shape guitar and I really do want one but I had a chance to play a similar model made by Ed Roman a couple months back and for me the body just seems too small. Still a grea looking guitar but I'd want the body a tad larger. I was talking to Doug at Soulmate and as soon as I get the availabe funds up for his deposit I might just go for it.

I am the current owner of the 'Angel' pictured.
I just found out from Yuriy himself that it the only one with the inlaid neck that he ever made.
The inscription translates to....."This guitar I made in honor of God. May 1994"...
It was listed in the '94-'95 Guitar and Bass Buyer's Guide.
2 years ago it was displayed in the Philadelphia Guitar Show with my PRS Artist collection and easily got more attention.
