Anyone tried the studiocat cabs? Amazing!

Yes! I don't have a lot (or any) experience with a real Mesa cab, but these IRs are fantastic. Good work Jim Roseberry. I look forward to your next cab.

They look cool and it's nice to have edge cone and off axis options

He needs to get a few clips up though IMO

He does need to get some audio/video clips up. ;)
I'll get to that ASAP!

We get slammed with the Holidays (building DAWs).
Currently building a machine for the drummer from Cinderella (nice guy and great all-around musician).

In the meantime, you can go to the Line-6 Helix forums and search for the beta-testing thread.
Numerous testers posted audio examples (lots of different styles).

Thanks Clint!
How did you like the AX8?

Might go ahead and get a Royer 121.
I'm anxious to capture another cab. We've learned how to capture a nice full articulate sound (with no fizz)... without using EQ or Filters.
Torn on exactly which cab to do first... ;)
4x12s are cool... but I also like smaller cabs.
I'm open to Cab suggestions...

Mesa V30 4x12 is a great first choice.

I'd love a collection of classics...Fender 1x12 Jensen, Vox 2x12 Alnico Blue, Marshall 4x12 Greenback, etc. That would cover just about everything I could think. Since the V30 Mesa covers the heavy stuff well, I might lean towards something like a Morgan 1x12 with a Creamback. That would cover a lot of the clean territory.

I'm really liking the AX8...It seems to suit me.
The 121 would be a nice add. That mic seems to work great with a 57.
One IR I've been using a lot lately is a 1X12 Carol-Ann, but I bet that would be a hard one to find in real life.
I would love to hear your favorite mix recipe for your Mesa cab. Like I said I don't have any experience with Mesa...I've always been a Fender guy.
Best of luck with the release!

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated!
1x12 Creamback sounds like a good choice.

I've been so busy playing with that IR pack I keep forgetting to record samples.

If you have the time, a couple of examples would be fantastic!
We'll get some "in-house" examples up as soon as we can.

I'm ordering a Royer 121 tomorrow.
For the next project, these two are strong possibilities:
  • Friedman 4x12 - two Greenbacks and two V30s (lots of mic'ing possibilities).
  • Friedman 1x12 Creamback - smoother
Thoughts?
If the 1x12 Creamback, would you rather have the closed or open back verson?

I'm a rock guy... so sometimes it's hard to get out of that mindset.

I will definitely do that soon. I mean, you IR pack you gave away for free beta testing is going to be all over my band's new EP in a couple months, seems the least I could do.

That Friedman would be great with the Gb v30 mix

Today I download the Studio Cat Jim Roseberry 4 x 12 Mesa. Very impressed with the sounds - certainly lives up to the hype.

I auditioned most of the cab IR's in the pack, using my Amplifire.

The AKG C424-XLS is stellar!! Four inches from the edge on axis (414 4_edge) goes brilliantly with the Kornford model (my favourite 'hopped up plexi' model).

Well done Jim Roseberry!

Cheers!
Paul
