I've got a big collection of custom-blended drumkit samples. Seven dynamic levels and six separate hits each, per drum.

What I need to figure out is how to get my sample to alternate between the six samples. I.e. assign all six hard-hitting 10" tom samples to one key, and then a different sample is played each time the key is pressed to make it sound realistic. GarageBand does this with built-in samples; I'm using TX16Wx and not sure how to go about it.

What would be most helpful is if there's a term for alternating samples on one key; that way I could research it more. But if anyone has experience in the matter, thanks in advance for the help.

Last poster was correct. Round robin or random round robin is what you've described. Native Instruments Kontakt sampler can be scripted to do this.

Most software instruments do but you can't on that ancient Yamaha sampler.

THANK YOU. I knew there was a term for it but I couldn't figure out how to get Google to tell me what it was.

Time to build the world's most awesome drum sampler.
