A buddy of mine just asked me this question, and I had no idea. Figured I'd pose it here. Thanks!

"I need to top coat a guitar that was painted by a local artist for our auction. Do I want to use clear spray paint or do I want to use brush on polyurethane? I'm worried that spray will not give it a smooth finish."

that's a recipe for ruined art.

the right finish is indeed gonna be sprayed on, but you really need to know what you're doing.

check out Reranch for good info on finishing guitars (hint: it ain't like painting a chair!)

the number one rule is Practice on Scrap First.
