Are you taking OMEGA 3s. Why?

I have high LDL and HDL. 2.7% probability of MI doctor says.

Should I? Which ones are good?

I would change diet first. Not saying you haven't. Just eat good unprocessed food high in fiber and quality Protein. Check out the Mediterranean Diet.

    Check out Neptune Krill Oil.

It is cleaner and more Bioavailable than Fish Oil. I would also try and get at least 40 grams of fiber daily.

Also many recommend taking Both. They complement each other.

Omega 3's aren't going to do anything for your cholesterol. Might lower your triglycerides, but is that a problem for you?

What did your doctor recommend you do?

I have been for over 30yrs.

    I take a complete EFA cap these days,fish oil,flax,etc.

A recent cardiogram showed clear arteries and good blood numbers.

Heart disease, runs in my paternal family side. I stay on top of it with regular screenings as well as a diet low in red meat, saturated fats, etc.

I've been controlling my high cholesterol for several years without the pills.

Things that have worked for me include:
    -Daily vitamin D supplement.
-Spinach & fruit smoothies for breakfast 5-6 days a week, spiked with flax seeds or flax seed oil (Omega 3).
-Regular exercise including strength training & cardio.
-Reducing terrestrial animal fats but not fat-starving. Avocados, nuts, olive oils, etc in moderation.
    - Reduction of carbohydrates. Particularly simple carbs/sugar. You can not simply trade high-fat foods for high-carb foods & expect to reduce your cholesterol (or be generally healthy).

Since moving to Norway in the early 90's I drink Tran..cod liver oil at least in the winter months. A teaspoonfull a day, when I reember. They have one that is flavored with lemon and it's not as nasty as the original Tran.

People have been doing it he for many many years, but mainly it is because of the sunlight being gone for many months in winter, I'm sure it helps.

Pffft. Omega-3 is weak. GNC sold me a huge bottle of Omega-4 last week. That's one Omega better!

Absolutely. I grind fresh flax seed every few days and either eat it along with a bowl of cereal or more commonly, mix it up with a big swig of OJ and down it. Best source of Omega 3s, IMO.

I also have salmon at least once a week.

    Does the trick.

I'm working toward this, also. The spinach or kale and fruit smoothies every day with flaxseed and almond butter, lots of avocado, nuts and EVO. Plenty of Omega 3s in those items, and I think more easily utilized by the body.

Trying to move away from the unhealthy crap, it is a mixed bag. Back from shoulder surgery to the point it is almost feeling normal. Yoga so far is it, along with walking the dog. Plan on getting into body weight exercises like burpies, etc, for strength training.
