Man the hype is real. I tried the KTS 70, 60, and Elegante with a few Morgan amps and identical Morgan oversize 1x12 open backs. I also compared the ASW stuff to my Veteran 30. In the end I went with the KTS 70 . . .
KTS 70:
This is a really interesting and complex speaker. It was really clear and almost high-def, but with a lot of character. The high-end was really pleasing. I ditched my alnico blue because there was something in the high frequencies that was giving me some ear fatigue. The KTS 70 has some nice sparkle going on, but it wasn't giving me any ice pick. Heavy distortion sounded really good too, realllllly harmonically rich.
KTS 60:
More mids, but it didn't sound as "high definition" to me as the KTS 70. The KTS 70 also sounded a bit more open, and slightly bigger to me. The KTs 60 was a very rich sounding speaker, but the KTS 70 had that extra sparkle and chime that I was really looking for.
Elegante:
Definitely creamier and more mellow than the alnico blue. Honestly, I didn't spend that much time with the Elegante because I wanted to get back to the KTS 70
The Elegante had some really pretty chime going on, but I preferred the way that the KTS 70 sounded when pushed hard with distortion.
Veteran 30:
This speaker has a lot of tone for the buck - just a killer deal. I've gotten some really nice recorded tones out of it, but the KTS 70 sounded much more complex and had a more detailed high end. The Veteran sounded kind of bland in comparison. The KTS 70 just gave me a huge grin, and made me very excited to play.
Anyway, there are a ton of great speaker choices out there these days. I'm really excited to start recording with the KTS 70 though and will try to get some clips up in the next few weeks to show what I'm talking about!
