to video clip directors? Apart from performance videos, most clips I see are pretentious, embarrassing & mind numbing. I have produced a few over the years & have tried to keep it as simple as possible. A necessary evil......???:huh

Must be nice -- as far as I know they haven't played music videos on TV here since the 90s :p

I'd look at it like this: Might as well take a chance on a music video director with a concept, because bands never get buzz off straight-up performance videos. The memorable videos are the White Stripes one with legos, the Weezer one with Happy Days, the Radiohead one with the man lying on the street, the OK Go one with treadmills. Those are the ones people talk about.

I agree with this, and occasionally the resulting video works really well with the song. For example:

Absolutely agree there is gold in them hills but it's a hard slog. Alot of bands come off second best to the directors "vision". Must be a few musicians cringing at having to be actors.

Well the corollary to what I said is that if your video turns out bad, who cares, almost nobody will see it. There are no channels playing these music videos anymore. These days a band makes a good video, people hear about it and go to youtube to see it, and the ones that are not great get ignored (except for the REALLY bad ones like ICP's "Miracles")

Where I live the national broadcaster shows music videos from around midnight until 9am on Friday & Saturday nights. 3 minutes can be a looong time :rotflmao
