autograph removal

    hey,
    im a newbie here and thought id start out by asking a ?. there is this 1989 strat ive been looking to purchase. the paint has aged with time and there is an autograph in black marker on the finish that i would like to remove. is it possible to remove it without damge to the finish?

    Most markers will come off with paint thinner (meaning mineral spirits, NOT lacquer thinner), but it's shadow will likely remain. If it's been there for a while, the UV exposure will have ambered the finish and perhaps faded the colors everywhere but under the signature. How much remains visible is the big unknown until it's off. Kind of like writing on your skin with sun block.

    the autographs are from the band weezer. the guitar is the lake placid blue but now looks more of a minty green color. what particular mineral spirit would be recommended. brand, item #, etc. ?

    OH man weezer? Id actually think of putting that on ebay first see if you get more than you think you would for it. Unless your super sold on the guitar. What if your able to sell it for more and then buy a guitar and not have to worry about this.
