Hi guys --- I'm on a budget. And I need a 2x12. I usually use my BF Dual Showman through a 4x12 cab. It's big, it's chunky (sometimes bordering on boomy...) Anyhow, it's a big sound.

My band is going on its first tour, and we're hitting the road in a mini-van. I told the guys I would try and scale down to a 2x12 cab. I need a good cab for pretty cheap. Avatar seems to be the deal -- I can pick up some Eminences (Thinking maybe a Wizard and a Governor) and have a pretty solid-looking 2x12 for about $330 to my door.

Anyone have any problems with cabs from this company? Do they have a good reputation? I've read up on Harmony Central a bit, but honestly, I trust you Gearpagers way more with my tone.

Also, should I go for an open or closed back? The open back is really just a cutout behind the speakers, it's closed around the bottom and top of the speakers.

Thanks, and have a great one!

I've had four different Avatar 2x12 cabs over the years and they have all been good. I currently use an Avatar open back 1x12 for small gigs.:crazy

Avatar has a very good reputation on the 'net. If you do a search here, I'm sure you'll get good results. I don't remember ever reading anything bad about them.

Oh yeah, I own a an Avatar 2x12 with Eminence Wizards. Bought new from them. Good cab, great service.

I had a 2x12 Avatar and currently own a 4x12. They're great cabs and a real bargain. No problems here and Dave's a super nice guy to deal with.:AOK

If you're running a Dual Showman, get the Avatar loaded w/ a pair of
Tonkers, and it'll be a very full, and balanced sound, w/lotsa punch .

I would think Wizards would do you well too, although be forewarned that they are extremely efficient speakers so it will be loud. I have a '65 Dual Showman head that I use with the cabinet and it sounds phenomenal.

How would you guys rate the Avatar vs. lets say a Bogner or anyother highend cab?

Cool, I've not heard the Wizards, yet; looking forward to trying them, at some point.

I got an Avatar after reading its praises on the tgp

It has the oval in the back, and I LOVE it, didnt even notice a "break in period" with the speakers I chose

The Tonkers are 150W --- no cone breakup...right? Shouldn't that high wattage rating make them massively louder than the Wizards? I'm afraid I don't know much about speakers. I'd prefer a quieter setup so I can crank the amp up higher into the grit-zone.

I've had two Avatar 2x12 semi-open back cabinets. My current one has the Wizard and Governor combination. I really like it, very warm. Build quality is really decent. I'm also a fan of Tonkers.

    No problem recommending Avatar here.
