I'm thinking of picking up a premier vintage 2x12 cab from Avatar. I plan on using it with a Marshall JCM 800 2205 50 watt head mostly. I would like to have the option of using it for studio work with my '65 Blackface Princeton Reverb, Bad Cat MiniCat and Gibson GA-15.

    Any speaker suggestions? Vintage 30 & G12H-30?

    Thanks.

I have the special with the Vintage 30 and G12H30. I love the combo, even more than my old Marshall 1960A with 4X12 GT75s.

I'd really like to try a bunch more speakers, especially the eminence red coats and patriots. My problem is (and it may be yours too), there are just soooooo many speakers and combos to try?!?!?!?!?

I have a Scumback M25 and an H30 in my premier vintage... my favorite cab with those speakers of any I've owned or tried.

Don't overlook the Hellatones. They are Celestion G12H30s broken in and I think they sound great (I just picked up an Avatar 2X12 cab with these):AOK

Yesterday I just ordered the same thing in that speaker combination. I have a Dr. Z Best Cab with that configuration and it sounds awesome. I figure why mess with a good thing. I was thinking also of Greenbacks, but in the end I like the V30 sound. This will be my first Avatar cab, hopefully it will sound good. I plan on playing my old Laney Pro Tube Lead through mine (basically JCM 800 Clone). I run it through the Dr. Z cab and it sounds great. Good luck....

    It will blow you away!

    I have a 2x12 with a Vintage 30 and a 70th Ann. 30 and it is, without a doubt, the sweetest cab I have ever played/owned.

    Major thumbs up to Avatar!

i wqould suggest a combination of 1 hellatone 30 and 1 hellatone 60, especially for your marshall.

that's what i have on my avatar premier vintage 2 x 12 and the sound is soo sweet.

If you want a killer combo go with an Eminence Swamp Thang with either a Governor or a Wizard. That's hard to beat.

I chose a pair of Classic Lead 80s and they're superb but my f-up back can't handle more than 50 lbs. at a time anymore so it's for sale in the Emporium now. Plan is to replace it with a 1X12 and same or similar speaker, e.g., MESA 90W Black Shadow.

G12H & G12M for a warm punchy soft vintage tone.
G12H & V30 for a warm punchy & tight for higher gain tone.
    G12H & G12T for 80's metal with a dash of vintage tone.

Fun making speaker salad mixes. This past weekend I went "X" of G12H & G12M with my Jubilee it is by far the best tone I have got out of the head next to the V30 Mesa cab which was a step up from the G12T stock Marshall 2551A cab but too mid-sterile with 4 V30s. The head is 2204 based so you should have similiar results.

Word. Mine has scummy M/H mix as well. Thrilled with the tone.

I would love to have maybe one Blue in there, but I am afraid I will blow it with a Marshall 50 watt head. The blue would be terrific with some of my other amps for studio stuff.
