AVRI '52 Tele - Need help- Vintage to Modern Wiring

Just as title suggests. Have an early 2012 AVRI that still has the factory Vintage wiring configuration (installed), and I want to change over to modern wiring scheme.

I'm a little confused about switching out the cap's / resistor, and have read a couple different opinions on here. I'm not sure what sonic the differences would be.

Currently, there's a .04k between the volume and 3 way selector, and a 503Z between the Tone & Volume controls.

If my memory serves correctly, most people recommend leaving the .04k cap in place, but I'm not sure about the 503Z resistor. Should that be left in place too?

It seems that most people don't recommend changing these out, at least the .04k to the other one supplies in the kit (I think .22k?)

What are the sonic differences between the various options? I'm not at all handy with a soldering iron (yet) so I want to know ahead of time what the .04 vs .22 sonic differences are, and what, as some recommend, cutting the 503Z will do. Not looking for generic "do it" responses, so much as what the various options do sonically. I definitely want to get rid of the awful vintage wiring tonal option on the neck front switch setting. Also would like to avoid anything that might make it too "ice picky" on the bridge. Just a nice traditional tele tone, without crazy bridge pickup ear bleed trebles. Basically, same sound as now, but with tone control on neck pup, and ability to use middle position to use both pups together.

Guitar "mods" are completely new to me - I've always just stuck with stock setups, but on this one, I just can't stick with the vintage wiring.

Thanks for your help.

You're probably interested in a lower cost solution (i.e., what you can do with a soldering iron), but just in case, I recommend the Tone Shaper (http://www.toneshapers.com/).

I got one for my AVRI because I put a CC neck pickup in and wanted different volume pot allotments for the neck and bridge. But it's pretty cool nonetheless and it's super easy to dial in different cap values and try out different settings.

Anyhow, worked for me and I'm now a fan.

Thanks, but ya, I'm just looking to do a simple rewire. Looks cool though.

Other thoughts?

So, you want the neck position to do what the middle does now, and the middle to be both pickups? I think the cap swap gets rid of the neck without tone control setting. Then just wire it up like the diagram states for the neck/bridge middle position.

Correct - basically want it to function like a traditional 3 way switch, with neck, neck + bridge, and bridge, with the tone control functional in all 3 positions (basically like a traditional Am. Std, etc). I was under the impression (for whatever reason) that I could leave the components I place, and just do the wiring changes). I thought the component swaps did something in the way of EQ changes (ie, the .22k was a lot brighter, etc).

For a standard tele sound you just want the .047 on the tone control.

OK. Sorry I'm a little dense with this - never done this before. So, basically then, leave the one that's in there (the 503z) and skip the .022uf? Is that what you're saying?

From looking at the diagram, it looks like I'd still need to remove the .1k cap that's currently in there between the volume and 3 way selector, and jus leave the 503z between the volume and tone pots?
