Good playing but way too compressed. Not Sounclouds fault, but the way the preset is dialed in.

Sounds really nice, and great playing!

Did you use the MXR for more gain or to kinda tighten up the sound?

    It is an mp3...

The whole mp3 sounds compressed. I don't think it's the way the preset is dialed in.

^ This is not an mp3 or Soundcloud problem. Sag, Dynamics, motor drive needs to be lowered.

Also some adjustments in the Speaker tab(amp block) can also do wonders to open up the amp.

    Thanks for your input.

    I used MXR+ because that's what they used in 80s with JCM800s.

Here are the details of my preset:

    MXR+ : Drive: 2, Tone: 5.5, Level: 8
    JCM800 : Drive : 6, Bass: 5, Mid: 7.5, Treble: 5.5, Presence: 0, Depth: 5.5, Master: 7

These are the settings used by Dave Murray live on JCM800s he used during the time this song was recorded.

Iron Maiden's original recording is quite compressed too, if you ask me. It's the whole 80s thing. MP3 just adds to the compression, you're right.

I played in a dual lead guitar band in the 80's very much like Maiden, and my other guitarist used a MXR distortion. Was never my cup of tea either, but there wasn't very many heavy OD's back then to choose from. I was using a Boss Super OD in my MESA Mark one or two. To me the MXR had a nasilly type sound. Todays guitar equipment is soooo much better

I enjoyed your work on this track

Yeah, that's the right word to describe MXR+, nasal. It works well with some applications, for example, it is an essential part of Malmsteen's tone. Without it, it just doesn't work.

I'd agree that MXR+ is not the best pedal out there, but I wanted to be as close as possible to the real thing.

Good playing. I must agree with the compressed comments here but that is no biggie. I think the tone reminds me more of Adrian Smith's tone. He seemed to have a tad more crunch in his tone than Dave, especially live.

I always found Dave's tone a tad more lower mids heavy and slightly more scooped, much like the comparison between Jeff and Kerry from Slayer.

Where did you get these settings from? I've been trying to find Dave's settings for a long time now but couldn't... Thanks

Some website posted it a while ago, can't find it now. I obviously tweaked it slightly to match my pickups.
