I am on the verge of taking the Axe-FX II leap. I have been watching the posts about the beta testing of FW10.
I have a simple question - If I buy the FX II now, it will ship with the current firmware. How hard is it to update? What is involved in updating to the new version when it is released?

Who knows what it will ship with. I would suspect 9.02.

Updating is not difficult, there are thousands of posts (and even video's) on how to update once V10 shows up (and V11, etc, etc...)

Don't get too caught up in 'I need FW V10'...the Axe sounds fantastic now, and while initial reports are that V10 is great, don't get into the mentality that '9 sux, 10 nirvana'.

I'm not really 'caught up' in that, I just want to know how difficult it is to update.

    EASY... takes about 1 min.

...but you'll need to hook the Axe to a computer.

The firmware is updated via midi.

You typically run a midi librarian program on a computer and have the AxeFx II connected via a midi interface or midi over USB.

If you are comfortable loading say a driver on a computer, like a graphics driver update or such, it is similar.

Check out the Fractal forum for all the detailed steps.

You can update the Axe-II firmware via USB. The MFC-101 requires MIDI.

You can use the AxeFX as a MIDI I/O device to update the MFC firmware. You just need a MIDI cable.

so you plug USB into the Axe and then 5-pin midi out the back of the Axe to the pedal? do you have to have the power adapter to the pedal or can you leave the CAT5 cable plugged in too?

The Axe-Fx II can be updated over MIDI or USB. We have a utility coming out soon called "Fractal-Bot" that automates this.

Units are currently shipping with 9.02. Version 10 is still in beta.

Cliff, will Fractal-Bot work with the MFC-101 as well?

Good question. I believe so but will have to check on the status of that.

Will "Fractal-Bot" be able to get me home from a gig if I've had too much to drink?
