Bad Bob vs Klon(e)

Once upon a time, the Bad Bob Boost was a pretty big thing around here. I had one and loved it. (I still can't remember why I sold it.) I'm probably going to send a Maxon OD9 to Analogman for the Silver mod and am considering adding a Bad Bob. I currently run Klone on my board, but I'm using it as an always on pedal and not a boost. I remember doing the same with the Bad Bob, but would adjust the volume on my guitar for rhythm or lead.

I'd like to know if anyone has done a direct comparison and can comment on the difference between the Bad Bob and a Klon or clone. I know that Analogman has a comparison on his website, but I'd like to hear from others -- and especially those who chose one over the other and why.

Thanks.

I still have an original Robbie Wallace Bad Bob and have had several Klones. I still have Bob. My experience with the Klones is that they provided a somewhat better tone coloration, but also took some of the sparkle off the top. Bob doesn't have quite as much of the upper-midrange but still fills out the overall tone while retaining all of the sparkle. Keep the Bob.

I played a clone recently on the same day I was also using my Bad Bob.
The clone was nice but for boost function I liked the clone but my preference still remains with the Bad Bob.

I had two of these at the same time a Robbie Wallace and one by Analogman.
They were indiscernible from one another in appearance and results, like twins.

The Bad Bob is one of the "at the top" pedals I've ever had and would never be without one.

I use mine for the most part as you do Hugh.
Ricks description is accurate.
The BB gives a good presence.

Thanks for the feedback, bluesjuke. It's sounding like I'll be getting a Bad Bob installed in my OD9 for a great 2-for-1 pedal!

Hugh:

PM me when you get that done. I think we did a pedal transaction before; perhaps with an Analogman delay?
