Got a $30 gift certificate for GC over Christmas, and thought that an ultra low buck OD pedal might not be a bad thing to have "just in case". Both pedals are $39....any opinions?
The Bad Monkey has gotten some great reviews. It's a hellava pedal for the price. That would be my choice.
I've owned both and I prefer the Bad Monkey. IMO it's not even close. The EQ on the BM is much more flexible and the OD is smoother.
A modded SD-1 is where it's at for me, but that's not $39. Add another $20 plus some soldering skills to do it yourself. Stock comparisons, I'd have to give it to the Bad Monkey
I just played my Bad Monkey and remembered why I love this pedal so much. What a steal that thing is.
+1 for the bad monkey (i really like mine)...if for nothing else the name alone gives it an edge over the sd-1 : ) ww
Got em both. The sd is only good if you want that thin, raspy boost (and little bass) in the upper mids. You might. I don't.
I can't vouch for the SD-1 (never played one), but I can't imagine it being any better than the Bad Monkey for the price. I love my Bad Monkey. Right now I use it as a boost for my Peavey Classic 30, but it does a really good low/medium gain OD, too.
Stock Sd-1, as Tone Terrific stated, thin and raspy. BM, VERY nice with lots of control over the EQ. I use mine just as a boost with a bare hint of OD. Try that with a stock SD-1 and it just wont happen. Well it might but not very well lol.
