So thanks to you guys on TGP, I am now a Baker freak. I can think of worse things to be.

Anyway, I will soon be the proud papa of this fine fiddle.

Dave at Overland Express has been a real class act and fun to work with.

My question is pretty simple. Does anyone know anything about this guitar? I looked at Gene's worklog and see that this was the only Strat he made under the Baker name. I am just as interested in the backstories of guitars as I am in how they play.

    Anybody?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

    Congratulations!

As you I only know this is the only Baker strat. I would have bought it if I had the cash. I just wanted to confirm that Dave is the best.

    Congrats man...

That's one amazing guitar to own!

I'm loving the headstock, looks like a tele headstock carved on top of a strat. :)

    Sweet!

Gene is the only builder I have come across so far that I feel comfortable buying without playing. This strat is far better than any custom shop I have personally played. The neck is absolutely perfect: balance, fit, feel... its all there.

I have a '63 that I am afraid of taking out anymore, but the pickups on it are phenomenal. The Baker Yabrerra's are as good as my '63.

And need I say anything about the headstock? Way cool, but not over the top. Just right for my tastes.

Thought I would post a few pics as well:

for whatever it's worth... this particular guitar is pretty special

it predates the XS series by many years... it was a one-off build for a good friend of Gene's

    very very rare bird indeed

glad to see others are enjoying it :D

    Cool info! Thanks Hucklebee!

I was tempted to offer it in trade for Jiml's amazing looking les paul replica on the emporium, but a couple of strums made me realize how crazy good this was. Altho I have to confess that replica has some MAJOR mojo going for it:Devil

It is second only to a magic 56 Strat that a good friend has, and better than any other strat I've played, vintage or not.:drink

    Cheers

    Very cool parker,

Can you tell me more of the story behind it, why did you pick the woods, is it braz on the fretboard (looks it).

My daughter is taking a pic of it into her show and tell as she was amazed it was one of a kind. She love the guitar too!

    Cheers
