I have a Kramer Baretta clone on the way for my birthday. It's the classic layout - Floyd, one humbucker, one volume knob.

It will be my "I Love the 80s" guitar, so I'm going to do something different in the paint job, but I want it to be typically 80s.

Here's what's OUT: No EVH style stripes, no Lynch style tiger stripes or pseudo-camouflage, no Zakk Wylde bullseyes, and no horrorshow graphics.

Here's what's currently in the running: holoflake, swirl, "Rising Sun," or maybe a totally 80s inspired graphic with all sorts of stuff like Rubik's cubes, Ocean Pacific or 17th Street Surf Shop logos, etc.

Show me what you have, TGPers, and give me some ideas!

I was never a Warrant fan but I thought the Spy Vs. Spy guitar was badassed.

That'd be cool. I've also thought of painting it yellow, having a snake wrapped around it in the ''Don't Tread on Me" pattern.

How about "none of the above"? Hmmm?

I like the "Rising Sun" idea, always comes out cool on 80's style guitars.

A solid flourescent pink, yellow or green is very 80's.

Rising Suns belong on Charvels. If you are doing a Baretta, you need to focus on Kramer graphics. The coolest Kramer graphic was the Marilyn face, painted by Kline. I would also add the candy stripe, although that too is a Charvel graphic.

How about a rising sun overlayed with a Kanji character that means something to you?

80's video game graphics. That would be the ****! The centipede game has some pretty awesome looking stuff on it- how 'bout the centipede wrapping itself around the whole body.
    That would be the best!

Not an option, but thanks for the input.

Graffitti is also a great graphic that is suitable for a Kramer.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. It's certainly an option. Fluorescent lime green, pink, and/or yellow are all good choices -- maybe all together in a swirl? I suppose I *could* go with an alternately colored pickup and volume knob, ie, green body, pink pup, yellow vol knob, but that would look a bit too Ibanez-ish.

I'll have to look more into the Kramer graphics. I'm not overly familiar with them, despite living through the 80s. :jo

That was another idea I had - no one particular graphic, but having lots of 80s style stuff on there. Graphics from Pacman, Galaga, Centipede, etc. would certainly go well in that scheme.

Here's one I found that I really like. Maybe not this exact pattern, but this general concept:

Haha! I watched the movie Tron yesterday. Well, not the whole thing, but I bet it would look cool to do the 80's video game montage graphics. With a Tron-like grid background, a centipede, a Pac-Man, a little Defender...any of the cool Bally's games. Granted, it's a bit nerdy, and not very shlock-rocky. For that, you can never go wrong with nice tits!

Ya know, that does look really cool with the big stripes. But, I recall seeing a really awesome Washburn paint job back then, where instead of putting big black stripes over the rainbow stuff, you just shoot black laquer over the entire rainbow thing. Then, hit it with a torch, so it cracks all over the place, letting the rainbow stuff through. Then, cover the whole thing in clear. It looked really cool, I'll see if I can find a pic somewhere to better illustrate.

Go to the Jackson website and check out the archives... A friend of mine, back in the late 80's/early 90's had a Jackson with flying lips on it. Crazy, but cool at the same time...

Hmmm... I really like this one:

Same sort of idea as the Rising Sun, but not just the same ol' Rising Sun....

Get someone to airbrush Sloth from the Goonies driving an IROC Camaro with his arm around Kelly Lebrock.

    I win?

Andy Timmons used to have a Kramer, I think with that irridescent design.
