I have an opportunity to purchase a supposedly mint Bedrock 1400 head for $400. I have heard that they sound pretty good and are solid amps. Is it worth it?

    Thanks,
    Frank

I had one for awhile. Cool amp. Wasn't really the tone I was going for at the time. Very loud, punchy, in-your-face sounding amp. Kind of like Hiwatt meets Marshall Super Lead but with a bit more gain. I would have kept it but nobody knew how to work on it. I put new tubes in it and the bias was way too high. Couldn't figure out the bias network. Couldn't find a schematic for it anywhere. So I put the old tubes back in and sold it. Too bad.

This site is for Bedrock fans. Might help a little: http://bedrock27.tripod.com/bedrockamp/index.html

There were a couple of series of these amps. Some of them are built like rocks, pardon the pun, others were not. The 1400 series, I believe, is from the really solid line of stripped down marshall type clones. I had a 1200 that was a very well-built, yet simple, amp.

    Pics would help.

I have a 1000 series which is very well built except it has plastic jacks which I am going to have a tech swap over to metal Jacks.

I had a 1400 that sounded superb at moderate to louder volumes. To my ears, very much like a meaner sounding JCM800.Again,it sounded best at rock band volumes.
