More to come as time permits. This amp just keeps getting better the more time I spend with it.
I promised Jim some clips and I will sort them out. My first attempts (at any clip of me playing, ever) were frustrating and just featured a lot of irritating mic clipping.
I have to say getting good audio clips on an iPhone was a little daunting at first. It took more time the first couple times than just properly micing and recording in our studio. Once I figured out the sweet spot though it got easier. First, as in every type of recording situation. Back off the gain and go for a cleaner sound than you might normally think. Even that will transpose to a heavier sounding clip. Also, using video calls for a conversion. Voice memo works better for easier implementation of uploading. However, the video recording actually sounds better. But unless you’re converting to a lossless format it doesn’t matter.
If you go to Settings, and click on Voice Memo and then click on Audio Quality, you can switch from Compressed to Lossless.
So presumably making a clip using the Voice Memo app set to lossless rather than using the camera to make a video should result in a better quality recording?
Awesome. Didn’t know that.
That amp could use a couple more "Jim Kelly" logos.
excellent. Thanks Jim. I’ve been playing around with garage bands latest update for iPad Pro. You can “record” with a condenser mic in the room. It actually sounds as good as many studios I’ve been in believe it or not. What’s even cooler is now I can export this in to Logic on my MAC Pro and do a complete “full studio” application running it back through out board analog gear.
not sure about better but when you’re done you won’t have to convert from video to audio only. That’s where the file gets squashed. I have software in logic that will do it but it’s a pain to export to logic from iPhone then strip it etc etc. there’s easier ways to do all this for sure. I’m just not invested enough in it for posting clips. I’m still finishing up my real album
For the sake of accuracy, I try to minimize the amount of presuming that I do.
There’s also a ton of apps out there that will do it for you. Many free. I haven’t found a free one yet that will convert to a WAV or Flac. Most free apps only do mp3 unless you pay extra.
Good info all round! My mate's just taken delivery of a new iPhone so I'm gonna rope him into helping me out with this. I'm really not a multi-tasker so if I can get someone else to take care of recording while I concentrate on actually getting some notes in correctly that might work!
Number 10 on the block this weekend
Shhhhhhhh! I was hoping to have a shot at this one
Looks like someone might be on for a bargain. Plenty of time though, eh?!
congrats willie k!
...somebody pinch me.
Hope you enjoy it mate.
the pinch or the amp?
