Which one of these amp heads from Fender would you rate as the best.
Lets say they are all from '65
And lets say they are all being played through a 2x12 fender cab from that same era.

I used to own a 65 tremolux head that I played through a 2x12 cab from the early 70s and it had to be the sweetest Fender tones I've ever gotten. I've played a bassman and a showman (never played a band master) and the Tremolux was by far my fav.

I'll be watching this thread keenly as I have been back and forth between a Showman and Bandmaster. By the way, whoever recently bought that Bandmaster on the Emporium from "Koa", let me know if you're not happy with it and I'll be happy to take it off your hands :)

The reason I posted this thread was because I recently picked up a Bandmaster. And I think its out of this world actually and cost half of what any other BF amp cost.

So now I have a friend who is interested in the same set up. I suggested a Bassman to him, and told him about a couple of the other heads. So I was just curious what everyone thought about them.

Blonde and BF Bassman heads - still my favorite amps of all time.

If it has to be from 1965 I voted for the Showman .

    pre-'64 I would've said Bassman - tho' the Blonde Showman rules,too.

I was/am worried about the Showman's Volume being 85 Watts and notoriously a Loud amp.

The Bandmaster is perfect and I'll hang on to mine but I am eyeing a 65' Bassman for my friend Now

I like the feel of my Showman with pedals, and don't need the full
85 watts so it works out, well.

If I want power tube breakup:boxer my '62 Bassman gets the call ..

Jeez, all the above. . .

If a vote for any one is considered a vote against any of the rest, I cain't vote!
Quite fond of the Bandmaster, tho.

    peace

i voted bassman, but really, they are all pretty bada$$, I just like the early break up/thicker tones of the bassman the best for my style

I didn't vote since I haven't really ever tried or heard a Showman, Tremolux or Bandmaster. Which is kind of an odd statement in itself, given that I'm planning on buying a Showman or Bandmaster - haha!

I have a really nice '63 transitional BF/blonde Tremolux, so that gets my vote. After that I would choose either the Bandmaster or the Bassman, but I really prefer a tube rectifier, so the Tremolux wins. It also seems like a great power level for most things these days.

I really love the 2x10 Tremolux cabs, too. I recently found an orphaned black tolex Tremolux cab for a good price, so I picked it up. It has replacement speakers wired for an 8 ohm load, so I pair it with a single 8 ohm 12" or 10" open back speaker for a total load of 4 ohms -- that really sounds good, as it blends the open tones of the open-back cab with the tighter low end of the 2x10 closed cab.

If it were any 60's fender amp head I would have voted a '62 Bassman for pre '65 and a Bandmaster Reverb for post '65 as it only came out in SF in '68 and later....
