    Hello TGP,

What are some contenders for a great shredder guitar with an amazing tremolo system under $1500, used or new?

You can go lower than that.

Jackson Dinky DK2M is $300-$500 and are amazed.

    Ibanez RG series for $500-$650.

    Ibanez trems are my favorite.

Used RG550 is tough to beat.

this right here. You really can't beat them.

Floyd, thin Neck High output pickups. You are in the game.

If you wanna be different and buy new, the EVH line is a great bet. Even the Wolfgang can get you there with a D tuner!

Lots of options. Charvel , Jackson , Kramer ,Wolfgang or build your own Partscaster . I’d just go for what feels good. Clean tone wont much matter

What he said. You cannot go very far wrong with a MIJ RG....

    Jeez.
There’s about a gazillion of them.
Ibanez alone, makes about half a gazillion models that fit the bill.

You get a lot in a Charvel SoCal/San Dimas or Ibanez RG550 Genesis for under $1k.

I used to think the Ibanez RG350 was a standard shredder & popular among casual players.

    .

    Ibanez ...
    Solar (Ola Englund)
PRS S2 24 fret (SG pickup spacing) with trem
    Charvel San Dimas

Or just build your own partscaster. There was this guy named EVH and he bought a scrap body and scrap neck, painted them himself. Relic'd them. Wired in a broken humbucker from a Gibson 335 that still managed to work. And only used a volume knob because there was no internet with guitar wiring diagrams at the time. Played that guitar and made a bazillion dollars and married an actress.

Used SL1 or SL2H depending on which configuration you prefer, if you want the best period for under $1,500. Any used MIJ Ibanez with an Edge/Pro/Lo-Pro if you want the to spend the least possible.

I'd probably be looking for a used Robin Medley or Machete.

Kramer Focus series MIJ Fujigen/ESP factory are real sleepers that can be had for a song. Try not to get the maple bodied ones though. Even though they sustain like crazy it's like carrying a boat anchor around your neck. The basswood versions are just right.
The Ibanez RG and S series were quite good.
    Jackson dinky's were also nice.
Hamer Slammer and Californian were cool.

Almost everything that’s been said already works but, I’ll throw these into the ring as well:

Used or leftover stock (MIK) Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder for the $500ish and under option

    And a

Used ESP M-II (MIJ) for the $1,000ish and over option
