I've recently heard a /13 FTR37 and it sounded amazing. Really walks the line between Fender and Marshall. I'm looking for a low to mid powered amp that can work well for small/med bar gigs (often the guitar isn't mic'd). Would love a head or a two 12 combo. Any suggestions? I'm not trying to break the bank. Thanks

You could look for a used Double Deluxe.

Mesa Mark IV in the "tweed" power setting with 6V6 power tubes. You can get those used for a decent price and have lots of versatility for gigging.

Tone King Meteor II. I've had mine over a year and a half, and it sits perfectly in the mix live. Four 6V6s, 40 watts with a half power switch.
Second channel is three knob tweed voiced, also very good. Three knob reverb for each channel which is the best I've heard. Best clean tone I've ever had. With a pedal or two it covers tons of ground with world class tone.

Mark Knopfler uses one for his clean tones on stage. Can't beat that for an endorsement for great cleans. Reasonably priced when they show up here used.

I am absolutely loving my Valveking 212. 3 gigs under my belt with it, and no looking back.

I like a Boogie Mk IV w/6V6's , I also like Boogie Heartbreakers w/6V6's too, with the Heartbreaker you have a tube rectifier option available. No complaints about either one. :RoCkIn:RoCkIn:RoCkIn:drool:drool:drool

I'm waiting for the 20 watt BUDDA 6V6.

I think it will be killer, if Jeff Bober is behind the wheel....

Their el84 18 watter is one of the best, most brilliantly conceived and executed amps I've ever had the pleasure of playing.

so i have high hopes for BUDDA's 6v6 models coming out in about a month...

    I heard they'll have a bit more of a " classic voice " :BEER:drink

Deluxe Reverb works for me. Albeit, I dunno if it will cut it volume wise for you.

I agree it sounds best with EL34s or 6L6/KT66s over 6V6s, but you can tweak it with 6V6s to have nice cleans, like use SS rectification. However, with a 1x12 combo and C12-65 speaker, the Club 40 with big bottle tubes is volume controlled and a great combination. The 6V6s are great, but I agree the EL34s are best in tat circuit to my ears.

have the Mark IV with 6v6s and its an incredible amp, if your looking for cheap an Fender HRDx with JJs 6v6 tubes, I have those as well and the Fender Hot rod Deluxe is good cheap giggible amp, the 6v6s go in and the HRDx is easy to bias with the back off, I adjusted for tone TBH. The HRDx run around $600 new and the tubes were about $30, hard to beat for a 6v6 amp.

I just read over on the Dr Z forum that he is working on a new 4x6V6 amp that supposedly has a killer plexi sound and has some new unique half power switch that supposedly retains the tone of full power at lower volumes better than some of the more common solutions.
