I have a 16ohm Hotplate that I use with my Concorde and Royale Albert set at 8db (2 clicks).

Now I need an 8ohm but before I purchase another Hotplate I was wondering if any others worked better for this type of light attenuation.

I'm not interested in the kinds that re-amplify the signal (UA) nor do I need one to take it down to bedroom levels. Just down to levels that won't make my liquor bottles walk off the shelves :aok

    Hey, lgehrig4,

I have a Hotplate but have never really meshed with it with my amps (Dr. Z 6545, etc...). My buddy picked up an Ultimate Attenuator. The Ultimate Attenuator sounds great with the only amp I've heard him use it with (Vibroverb)... Occasionally, I see them used for $250-$300...

I use an Alex Attenuator and find it to be completely transparent at any attenuation level...

I've read good things about the Alex, but I need to read up on them a little more. the Aracom seems like a good one, but I can't spend $500+ for the little attenuation I do.

ssyrjamaki, I actually have an Ultimate Attenuator, but I stopped using it after finding out that it is hard wired for 32ohms. Also, it re-amps the signal. I've been meaning to put it up for sale, but I actually forgot that I had it :)

Just did a trade for a Komet Airbrake. Should have it in a week. For the most part I'm only using it with a Concorde and I've had nothing but great experiences with Komet products so I'm sure this will do the trick for my needs.

I've used the Dr. Z Airbrake for mild attenuation and it works great.

My impressions of the Komet/Z Airbrakes are that they are good for mild attenuation, but not for bedroom levels. This is perfect for me because I only use 2 clicks on my Hotplate at most. I also feel good pairing the Concorde with another Komet product. Since the Airbrake can be used with both 16 and 8 ohm and has a line out I can sell my Hotplate, so that is a bonus for me.

    Anyone need a 16ohm Hotplate? ;)

I was real interested in the Alex, but to be honest I didn't want to spend $400 if I wasn't attenuating down to bedroom levels. Even my Hotplate sounds great with just a couple clicks.

komet has a line out. dr z has a bedroom level. dr z is prettier but taller. other than that they are the same. i ultimately sold mydr z for the komet for the use of the line out since i didn't use the bedroom level much

Correct me if I'm wrong, can't you use a 16 ohm Hot Plate on amps with a lower ohmages like 8 ohms? Thought I just read that in another Hot Plate thread here recently. Said it was printed in the instructions.
