So what's the consensus on the best bang for the buck klone these days?

If you're based in the UK try Fredric Effects. By far the best/cheapest over here.

In the US or elsewhere I really don't know.

I really like my Arc Klone v.2, but in terms of bang for the buck I can't imagine anything readily available beating the Soul Food. That price is insane for a decent little pedal that gets you much of the way to that Klon thang...

Can't vouch for anything else except the Mythical Overdrive with 1N34/OA126 germanium diodes. Wonderful warm drive from this one! It does not sound like a pedal. It really sounds like the amp it's driving.

I've only tried the Mythical (and I'm a fan), bought it used for not much more than the Soul Food goes for, FWIW (pun!).

There isn't one. TGP has fans of all the klones.

I played the Soul Food for the first time at an outdoor gig. Thought it was great...but I've never played a Klon to reference the comparison. I thought it was articulate, had tons of volume (too much really) and cut through using my Bassman RI

Dialed in with the gain around 1-2 oclock and the tone straight up...was coping Neil Young Cinnamon Girl tones all day...which made me happy

I'd really like to try the MO especially for the used prices I see.

I can't compare it to anything else, but like the Archer a lot.

I set it up with just a little gain. So it sounds like...a different character. Almost like I am a/b ing amps.

I have the Archer and the Soul Food. If you have $50 get the SF, if you have $150 get the Archer. ;)

I think the Archer is a very versatile pedal that can sound both like the KTR (also on my board) or the older ones (sold mine because how can you not when you can get 5 x the original price?).
The Rockett Archer is small, sounds great, and can add the grit of my Gold Horsie or keep it cleaner like the new ones. Works great with your guitar volume control. Bargain.

The Soul Food is the best value, for only $66 new, or $50 used... If you play in a fairly loud band, no one will know you have a SF vs a Mythica\Archer\ARC\etc

Soul Food is best bang for the buck.

    BYOC Silver Pony is fantastic.

I have the klon ktr and the soul food on my board currently, so the sould food gets a vote here. Love both pedals.

The EHX Soul Food is the cheapest ($70), but (IMO) it doesn't sound very good.
A s/h Mythical Overdrive (@ around $125) would (IMO) offer you the best bang for the buck.

    Soul Food

Archer and Merman are also very good but more $.

I have two Soul Foods and an Archer on three boards. I dig 'em.

    J. Rockett Archer for sure!! If you've never used a Klon/Klone you may want to try the soul food first if $$ is a big issue, but the Archer is SO worth the money. Used ones are selling for basically new prices, so there's no risk in buying one, and it is substantially better than the Soul Food IMHO.

I agree. Admittedly, though, the only other Klone to which I've compared mine is the Movall Minotaur (aka Tone City Bad Horse), which didn't impress me as much.

I was lucky enough to get a good deal on a pre-built Silver Pony not long after they were discontinued. I'd suggest that anyone who might be interested go ahead and grab one while you still can.
