What's the best concert line up you've seen that wasn't a festival? Back in '91 I saw Red Hot Chili Peppers and Smashing Pumpkins open for Pearl Jam. It was epic.

When you've been to the number of concerts I've been to I think you'll begin to understand that answering a question like this (and omitting festivals) is really difficult...next to impossible.
Far too many combinations for me to pick the best ever.

Melvins opening for KISS on the reunion tour - my 2 favorite bands, and a strange (but wonderful) music choice for KISS at that!

    2 come to mind immediately

Blue Oyster Cult headlined with Thin Lizzy in the middle slot (had some new guitar player named gary moore) and some australian band called AC/DC went on first.

Judas Priest headlined with Whitesnake in the middle slot (older version that had ian paice on drums and jon lord on keyboards) and this new band Iron Maiden (original singer)

I thought the first Beastie Boys tour was pretty cool...... Murphy's Law, Fishbone, and then the Beasties.....

I know you said no festivals, but the first Lollapalooza was epic! Besides, it was a tour, and not just some huge show over a few days in one location, so I'm throwing it in here. :) Again, I loved seeing Fishbone getting some exposure to larger audiences. Body Count, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Red Hot Chili Peppers....I'd need to dig out my t-shirt to remember the rest. All killer and no filler...for me, anyway.

This weekend, I'm slated to see Duran Duran with Chic. That's going to be quite a show, too!

Audioslave. Just them. It was the best lineup because in between Audioslave songs, they played a set of Rage Against the Machine, the Soundgarden songs.
