Sorry for the other threads. This seemed like a better question. Goal is to thicken and add space. Id like the unaffected signal to pass unconverted to digital if possible and repeats that stay out of the way.

    Though about:
    Deep Blue Delay
Either Providence because I like the echo hardness (overkill?)
    Skreddy

What's the best rhythm delay that lays underneath and isn't bright?

I used to own a Deluxe Memory Boy which did this too well, it was too dark.

The Carbon Copy will probably do this well too

I used to love my DL4s delays for rhythm work.

You'll want tap tempo for rhythm. Getting "close enough" for leads is fine but for rhythm it would get annoying real fast.

I'd say Boss DD7, great workhorse delay.

The deep blue delay is my "thickener and space adder" in most applications though.

Just like the others said, Carbon Copy is great. It sits nicely under your guitar, but fills out all the spaces. Its great. Sometimes I will hit it for a lead and never turn it off because I like how it sounds on all the time.

I get good results on my Vox delaylab. Takes while to get used to it though but the learning curve is well worth it.

If you don't have the real estate for a delaylab, go for a single TC flashback pedal - the 2290 setting is one of the finest I have heard and I have my eye on the flashback mini and I would beam in the 2290 toneprint and just leave it in there as the mini can do the whole strum tempo thing also. My rig is mono anyway. You can get the flashback mini for like £70 ish
