Now, I know everyone will have a different opinion but thats OK!!! I like the way el 84s sound and play under my fingertips, but so far I've always had 6L6s. I would like to get a el 84 amp to gig with. Any ideas?

AC30. I know a lot of people don't consider these blues amps, but park it on the normal channel and feel the sweet saturation. Or pop in anything by the yardbirds, early zeppelin or Rory Gallagher. It'll provide you with vaguely bassman/jtm45 type tones, but with a whole different feel to them.

I sure like what my EL84-packin V32H does for the blues. Makes my BJ pale in comparison.

My Budda SD30 (4xEL84s) is the best EL84 blues amp I've played to date.

    FAT blues tone for days.

Hard to beat a tubed Marshall, a DSL401 that is hard to beat, clean channel gain to 10, and it just crys the blues. The DSL401 has 4 EL-84s .

+1-One of these with a speaker upgrade would do nicely.

That is funny, had a studio 15 for 20 years, always assumed it was EL-84s never had to replace the tubes though, sold it a while back, still regret doing that.

I notice I am becoming a big fan of the 6v6 tubes, have then in my Mesa Mark IV and getting them for my HRDx, but it looks like I have always been a fan of the 6v6 and just did not know it.

Check out this little gem by Larry Rodgers - a pair of EL84's with a custom circuit that's a cross between a Matchless Spitfire and AC15. Add an alnico speaker ...

So many outstanding 84 amps these days. The best? AC30 and 1974X, and of course the Blues Junior. The AC 30 is such a versitile amp and is used for a broad range of music styles while the Marshall has that one sound...and mercy is it a great sound. the Blues Junoir is really just an ok amp even with a spk change and good tubes in it. JM, Robin Trower, Lee Roy Parnell, and dozens of other pros use a Blues Junior which sort of surprises me when they could have most any amp they want.
