A friend of mine who has been death metal all the way is a VHT fan.

We have Rivera Knucklehead Reverb II and Bogner Uberschall and some people like one and other people like the other better.

The choice of cab plays a big part, and a sub goes a long way too.

I may get some big flack for this but.....to me the Suhr OD-100 isn't really in the same vein as a Herbert or Uberschall, or UltraLead. It does have a lot of gain but it is much more of a "saturated" sound, that is rounder and smoother. Not saying it's dumble smooth, but a "stuffier (no t in the bad sense)", but smooth compared to say a Dual Recto.

I would agree that it's not in the same vein as the others (much more of a vintage style high gainer), but I certainly wouldn't say the high gain of the OD 100 is more saturated, rounder or smoother.

I agre to a certain extent. I used to own a UL & Uber and still do own my Herbert in addition to an OD-100SH/SE. The OD100 is not a super high gain modern metal amp... the others are. The voicing of the OD100 is inheirently mid-heavy and is not an amp that sounds good scooped... the others do. The OD-100 is more like a great hot-rodded Marshall lead with the best Fender clean in one box. The OD-100SE has tons of gain on tap, however, the voicing and equalization curve of this amp are totally different from a modern super high gain metal amp.

Wizz, where would you place the Sabre in this? Is it modern high gain or old school modded Marshall?

The Sabre is old school modded Marshall but has a bit of modern sizzle in it as well.

The Ubershall is the coolest High gainer I've ever played. Nothing comes close IMO.

Definite "old school modified Marshall" IMHO. Great amp.
