Anyone have any suggestions on what the best new production 6L6GC's on the market are?

I'd like to stick some new tubes in my 61' Vibrolux - cant afford any old glass..

    Thanks in advance..

I'm sure your going to get some conflicting opinions on this, but I think TAD, SED, and Groove Tubes all make a good 6L6GC.

While I'm not a big JJ fan, the JJ 6L6 is a very good tube for newer production.

There are lots of good choices - it just depends on what your ears like best. I personally prefer SED/Winged C.

For tone, price and reliability, the SED's ("Winged C") are almost impossible to beat.

I want something with a little more low end - and mid range punch. It's got some Sovtek's in it right now and it's just not "happening."

If the SED's don't do it, the amp can't do it.

I'd say SED's also! How 'bout they're preamp tubes? Might give 'em a go!

    My favorites are the SEDs.

That seems to be the way I'm headed now thanks to all your recommendations.

SED's in the pre section also? Guess I might as well pull the rectifier too?

I would contact Terry Kilgore and get some NOS pres. You think you can't afford any. Believe me, you can. Tell him what you're looking for.

    Beware, he's a little "quirky."

By the way, the did a two or three-part series on Kilgore in Vintage Guitar Magazine.

I'm digging the new Tung Sol 6L6GC STR's more than any new production and even over some NOS stuff.

For new production I find the winged "C"`s are a very good sound. And yes, as above some good nos pre amp and you`re good to go.Enjoy!
