I need to get some more pio caps. I know there are a few places, and some sites other than ebay have good prices but then you get gouged on the shipping for a package that weighs mere ounces.

There's so much stuff floating around on ebay I have no idea whats good. I also don't trust those old russian caps to be anywhere near their specs or not be leaky...

Also at one time I bought a PIO cap, a T or Q something and one of my roommates threw away the little package thinking it was garbage...

TGP member Outtahear has PIO caps in the retailers section. I have them in all my guitars.

+1. I bought some from Outtahear in the past - they're quite decent!

cool, I PM'd him. Where's the best place to get CTS 500k pots for an SG?

I don't know if they need to be long or short shaft, I remembered getting a fender pot once and it wouldn't fit in the SG.
Like caps, a lot of places that sell pots have minimum shipping charges that for such a small order isn't worth it for me.

People who restore old radios will generally avoid using these caps as their specifications will drift over time as they age. Mylar and ceramic etc. are more reliable.

If you want to dabble with vintage PIO, try to buy ones that have been measured rather than based on the color codes or the printing on the cap.

Not only that but there isn't a discernible difference in a guitar between PIO and them little green chicklets caps you can get at Rat Shack.
Value matters. Type? Ain't a swingin' dick here that could tell the difference between cap types of equal value.

Wrong, but it could be considered correct for people with hearing damage.

They don't usually drift that much if they arent exposed to high voltage.

It's a fact. Sorry to burst bubbles, but this is such a simple circuit you can't even call it a circuit. Yes, value matters and yes, some caps are waaaay off from their declared value. But nobody can hear a difference between your PIO and a chicklets cap of = values.

I've been pulling apart old tube reel to reels- tons of great tubes, capacitors, transformers, etc.
