Original Celestion G12H30 55hz, G12M-25, and Silver or Blue Alnico's. Original Jensen P12R, P12N, P12Q's. Jensen A12PM. Early 20 or 25 watt Fanes. 15 or 20 watt Goodman Audiom. Early pre-1945 Rola's. I could go on, but they all sound the best in the correct application. There isn't one that is the best universally.

If power handling isn't a consideration the Celestion Alnico Blue get's my vote.

Depends on the amp and cabinet. I've heard some where all of the speakers mentioned so far worked great, others where they were inappropriate.

I don't have a very wide range of experience here, but I do find that every time I hear a G12H30 I like it. I like classic rock the best for reference.

That depends on your ears! Yeah its a cop out answer but true. For me Ive gravitated towards G12K=100's,G12-65's and modified Relic 30's.... Bob

Knowing what kind of 'music you play/guitar tones you like' might help narrow it down somewhat :)

The best sounding speaker in the world will sound like **** if it's in the wrong amp.

For my money, a BFDR or SFDR with a JBL D120F is the bee's knees. Or a Vox-flavored amp of any stripe with Celestion Blues.

Scumbacks are very nice. I also like the look of Eminence's new Alnico Hemp Cone Speaker.

If your doing the classic rock tone then you should try some Greenbacks or Greenback clones like Eminence Private Jacks. I also have sets of Scumbacks,ToneTubbies, and Celestion Blues that are all fantastic in thier own special way.

there are as many speakers out there as you will get answers to this question.. Like others have said, what amps / music do you like to play?

A little bit like asking, "what are the best tires for my car?" ;)

I would think the answer depends upon the amp and type of sound you want (British sound? American sound? low end thump? smooth overdrive tones? etc)

I am amazed by how many hear don't care to drill down and find out more before throwing out a solution.

For high gain rock I'd definitely audition an Eminence Wizard. Fabulous for those type sounds and not very much coin.
