    Hi all,

I'm going to be in New York City soon and I need to buy a decent overdrive pedal and I haven't made up my mind which one yet.

Can anyone recommend then best store for buying and indeed comparing in Manhattan?

Unfortunately I won't have enough time to go outside Manhattan though.

Plus any suggestions on the best od pedal? I am looking for transparency of tone and flexibility. I don't need monster gain or fuzz and my set up is generally either a 50's Telecaster or a Les Paul into a Denis Cornel Plexi.

    Current consideration are:

    The Zen Drive
    Fulltone Mosfet
    Hyper Pac Dirty Channel.
I've a King of Tone on order but I've been saying that for over a year :)

you probably won't find all those pedals in one store. almost certainly not the zen.

in any case, 30th st. guitars is the best guitar shop in NYC. Ask for Matt and tell him the Bug sent you

ludlow guitars on ludlow just south of houston is pretty sweet... but its not gona have the fulltone. it has tons of boutique pedals and toys!

i had a gig 1/2 a block from ludlow's and just sort of walked past it! lucky find considering i'd already taken a train up to 48th to go to mannys and the other stores there. ludlow was way cooler. (plus its 1/2 a block from Katz's deli... go get you the best sandwich ever.)

I was just in 30th st guitars and they have an overwhelming array of pedals old and new. You could easily spend all day in that one shop

dude, it was kind of a joke, but if you haven't been anywhere else, then you won't understand it.

Since i have lived in 3 countries and been in at least 24, NYC to me is Dumpy looking, it is dirty, the people don't have good manners and everyone leads an individualistic life thaht is very shallow.

Tell me if i am wrong, please tell me what do you compare NYC with.

By the way, i have 2 apts there and let me tell you that one of them is in Riverdale, which is quiet and less dirty, but even then, you cannot compare it to other cities that are very clean.

Now, if you want to talk about ignorance and prejudice and fear, pm me and we'll have a little Habermas chat:dude

Main drag is a really great shop and the guys working there are extremely cool about letting you try out stuff even if they know you're not necessarily buying... although, it's in Williamsburgh and not Manhattan.

Other than 30th street and Ludlow. Rudy's on 48th street has a great selection as well -- he stocks Keeley, TMC, Fulltone, Maxon etc. Was just there on Friday on my lunch break.

Guys thanks for the advice. Seems like 30th Street and Ludlow are certains and I'll probably call into Rudy's anyway. While my wife is shopping for shoes I will try and make it to as many stores as possible.

Who would stock the Zen Drive? Plus I see from another thread that the 'Screwdriver' is fine pedal too .. but forgive me for not knowing but is this only available direct?

Stephen B ... thanks for the extra advice ... how did you know I'm gonna need a sandwich about that time too !! Do you know me or something :)

LOL. Dude, nobody--particularly New Yorkers--cares if you don't like NYC. Do us a favor. Don't come. You're not welcome.

I agree with the posts here about Matt and 30th Street being the best.
