I sold my HD500 as it wasn't getting usage, but I do miss the synth effects(as well as other untraditional effects like the octave & particle verbs).
Is there another effect that does synth stuff better though? The G3 has much better auto-filters(I find) but lacks stuff like synth strings, square wave synths. I think the B3 has more so it may be worth looking into.
