Anybody have any theories? Anything to back it up?

I'd imagine the middle of January is probably not prime time but I'd be interested in hearing what is.

#2. Sept. thru the beginning of Oct. when Pell grants are released.

Tax time I can understand, but Pell grants? Would that be for selling guitars to college students? I'm thinking TGP/eBay/Reverb/MLP demographics, are they there (here) in any numbers?

Kind of a bummer if kids are spending their tuition money on guitars. No wonder the student loans aren't getting repaid! ;)

Sold a couple of guitars at Christmastime.

I used to sell a couple a week. Sales are SLOW.

Ithaca is kind of a college town, a three tiered one at that, and let me tell you between trust funds, book buy-back (don't tell the 'rents!), loan and grant releases, there are definite cycles to when discretionary purchases are made.

I haven't noticed a better or worst time of the year. Up until 8 or 10 years ago, it was when tax return checks rolled in, but not so much anymore for whatever reasons. Maybe return checks are smaller, or that money's getting recycled back into living expenses?

The best time to sell seems to be January-February, due to Christmas money and tax returns. This season used to last through April, but with online rapid returns, it has compressed.

Christmas time is usually decent for beginner instruments, but not so much with pro-level gear like you find on TGP.

Also depends on what you are selling.

If a cheapie, yes, right after Christmas as kids have a few hundred to blow, but they usually go right to GC, not eBay.

If it's higher dollar, probably not so much, as dad is now broke from holiday spending.

Now until about march is a great time to buy.

People are broke after x-mas, bills are due, tax bills coming in, stores blowing things out.....great time to be a buyer.
