this is mine - to my ears when I heard this - I've been on a life long quest to achieve one centilla of the tone young slowhand is achieving with such ease. Even ol' slowhand cant sound like this now...

Don't know if this is the best but it is different than Clapton and more modern by the excellent Bill Nelson. This is one of my favorite live albums. Very inspirational for guitar playing. Great vocals too.

I would agree that the Beano record is a definitely a landmark record for great tone.

But for me it would be these two:

Great choice with the Beano album. I'd add Fresh Cream too. May I add several others - Duane Allman Fillmore East. Mike Bloomfield Super Sessions. Jim Hendrix Little Wing. First Dire Straits album. Buddy Guy A Man and the Blues. Wes Montgomery just about anything.

For me, it is Jimi doing Voodoo Chile (slight return) which I think is a cranked blonde Bassman, whatever it is, it does it for me.

Great tone, great songs, stellar engineering and production. Sounds just as fresh almost 20 years on.

There are loads of great tones. Not sure if there is a best but here is one of my favourites. Blackmore on Made in Japan.

Have to concur with Beano. No fancy effects (the Rangemaster is another debate) just LP and Marshall. Can't get much better than that.
