I've tried the Marvel, Rockett Animal and Tech21 Hot Rod Plexi, SL Drive and DSL III... The Tech21 Hot Rod is by far the loudest and most open

Run the C-bread DLS mkiii on 18 V, and you're in the ballpark.

My favorite is the Bearfoot dyna red for a plexi-ish kind of thing.

for 70's marshall super lead lumpys Liquid lead/albion is hard to beat

It doesn't get much love these days compared to the latest MIAB offerings, but I don't think you can go wrong with a ZVex Distortron if you want something for JTM 45 to early Plexi goodness. It's bloody marvelous with low output pups (I'm running a Dot with DiMarzio 36ths, and this pedal loves the neck pup).

I've got a faithful clone and recently put it back on my board since we added some old Free tunes and other JTM/JMP flavored stuff. I run it through my Mini Rec on "clean" set to break up a bit (channel master nearly wide open and gain just past noon), and that pedal literally transforms the amp even running just a 1x12. Set the drive judiciously, and along with some nice crunch and growl the note clarity is there; a very "big" open, uncompressed sound. I have a feeling with a 4x12 it would be even more authentic.

This. You can even switch it to superbass mode for an even cleaner sound.

SL Drive in the lowest gain settings (it is capable of much more gain than needed).

    Liquid Lead too.

    :agree

So many flavors in one little box. I love the Blackmore setting with the dips all the way up as the factory Super Lead mode can be a bit too much. Also Blackmore setting lends itself well to taming LP neck pickup flub too.

For the cleans, the Liquid Lead and DLS MKIII struck me as being exceptionally good (MKIII does great "generic" Marshall dirt, but there wasn't enough output for me). -E
