Binding routing and finish

Router bits are easy to find, any hardware store almost. But router bits that are sized to work for things like guitar binding, well they are a specialty item.....LMI has them as well but they are still very expensive. Most of the pros use a special machine to rout for bindings that accepts conventional bits just for that reason.

I figured I could get Les Paul style binding that's really thick so I could use a conventional router bit and bearing. What are the steps in finishing the guitar? What order do I apply binding, stain, and paint?

You will want to have the bindings done before you glue in the neck. After all construction is done and it is finish sanded you would stain the back,m scrape the bindings and seal. Paint the top and headstock face and scrape bindings again. Apply clear and buff.
